One of the oldest operating synagogues in California the Wilshire Boulevard Synagogue, is set to receive a Hollywood makeover after a 10 pound piece of plaster fell from the ceiling which damaged the building. The congregants, whom many are Hollywood executives, have helped spearhead a $150 million renovation, which is set to be completed in time for Rosh Hashana of 2013.

A population of Native American Indians from the US state of Colorado has been found to have a genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews. According to RT news, the so-called “Ashkenazi mutation” is a deleterious modification in BRCA1 gene which increases risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. The finding also suggested that the presence of common roots that date back to the days of Christopher Columbus.

British Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks sent a special “mazel tov” prayer to Queen Elizabeth to commemorate her 60th year as Her Majesty. The special prayer that Rabbi Sacks composed was read this past Sabbath in the country’s synagogues.
