If you willingly refer to your profession as ‘kiruv rabbi’ then you are most definitely a ba’al teshuva. Chabad rabbis (the vast majority of whom are hardcore FFB with at least some yichus of which to speak) call themselves ’schlichim’ for the Rebbe, so their kiruv is of a different sort. If you are part of the ‘Kiruv rabbi’ set, you are the type of guy who got mekurived, moved to Yerushalayim, did about 5-10 years of hardcore gemara learning, and then moved back into Galus to try your hand at mekuriving a fresh crop of young men looking for meaning in life.
