Egypt Internet Shut Down by the Government

Egypt’s Internet services were shut down by the government of the country early on Friday. The Egypt Internet services were blocked at the country level apparently, and it wasn’t just due to overloaded server, or too many people trying to access websites.

Huffington Post reported it was about 12:30 a.m. in Egypt when it was confirmed that no Internet traffic was going into or out of the country. Before that, there had been many developing stories about widespread outages, but the story wasn’t yet stating that it was a government-controlled outage. Even text messaging was down in the country, showing that Egypt is really trying to control the flow of information in the country right now.
