Arutz Sheva TV‘s Hezki Ezra met the Director General of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. “The foundation was founded”, explain the founders, “in order for future generations visiting the remains of the Auschwitz Nazi German concentration camp to be able to see with their own eyes the authentic site of the crimes that the Nazis committed during the Second World War.”
Professor Władysław Bartoszewski established the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation with the task of amassing a sum of €120 million for the Perpetual Fund.
“The annual interest of €4-5 million”, explain the staff members of the foundation, “will make it possible to plan and systematically carry out essential conservation work. Thus, for the first time in its history, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial has a real chance of creating an ongoing, long-term conservation program that will make it possible to safeguard the remains of the camp for future generations.”
According to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, it has received strong official support from the Government of the Republic of Poland, the International Auschwitz Council, and the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education. In addition the foundation reports that in a special letter addressed in February 2009 to the heads of over 40 states, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk asked for concrete financial support for the project.
