Kosher Supervisors Certified in Poland for First Time since Holocaust

For the first time since the Holocaust, 17 Polish Jews were officially certified as Kosher supervisors last week, after successfully completing a three-day training seminar in Krakow.

The course, run by the Jerusalem-based organization, Shavei Israel, taught forty participants the specifics of preparing food according to the laws of kashrut.

The course was conducted by Rabbi Dov Landau, a leading Gerrer Hasid and senior kosher supervisor in B’nei Brak, and under the auspices of Poland’s Chief Rabbi Michael Shudrich.

Shavei Israel sees its efforts as an important contribution to Jewish life in Poland, but the chances of the newly certified kosher supervisors to find work easily are slim.
