Barkan
Barkan Wine Cellars were founded in 1990 by Shmuel Boxer and Yair Lerner, who were the largest grape growers of the Stock Winery. Boxer, who belongs to one of the old grape-growing families of Nes-Ziona, together with Yair Lerner, acquired the Israeli Stock company, which produced wines, vermouth, brandies and liqueurs. They renamed it Barkan Wine Cellars, by which name it is known today. Their plan was to improve and enlarge the winery, in order that it could compete in Israel’s near monopolistic wine market of those years.
Since its inception, Barkan Wine Cellars have committed themselves to constantly improve the quality of their wines, which is reflected in the results from many blind tastings and international competitions. Barkan wines constituted more than 10% of the 57 best wines introduced in the Israeli market in 2005, as selected by the Wine and Gourmet Magazine’s panel of experts.

The ‘Classic’ collection
Barkan Classic wines are a series of premium wines from varieties that are accepted in the world as fine wine varieties. The vineyards from which these wines are made are among Barkan’s best. These same vineyards are the base of Barkan’s most prestigious wines, albeit they differ in the style in which they are produced.
White and Rose wines in this series are cold fermented without oak to preserve their freshness and fruit characters, while the reds are fermented at moderate temperatures in rotary fermentors to combine maximum color and body with the fruit characters that derive from the varieties.
