A favorite tourist spot in the Caribbean, Mikve Israel was founded in 1651 by Sephardic Jews from Amsterdam. It is the oldest remaining congregation and the oldest synagogue building in use in the continents of North, Central and South Americas. Today it serves a congregation of 350 members.
