At least seven of the thirty five co-chairs of the Obama campaign are Jewish, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported.
A list, released Wednesday, includes the names of Alan Solow, past president of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations; President Obama’s former Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel; U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet; Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky; Marc Benioff, and Penny Prizker.
“My appointment is a reflection of the importance he places on reaching out to Americans of all types… The Jewish constituency is an important part of the American community. It is important in electoral politics and has been a mainstay of the Democratic Party,” Salow told the JTA.
Solow will accompany President Obama when he speaks at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual policy conference on March 4, and said that his role will be to garner support from the Jewish community for the Obama administration’s domestic and foreign policies.
