About the name of this kippah – Maalot TarshihaMa’alot-Tarshiha is a city in the North District in Israel, some 20 km east of Nahariya. The city was established in 1963 through a municipal merge of the Israeli Arab town of Tarshi?a and the Jewish town of Ma’alot. During the merger in 1963, most of the inhabitants were Arabs. Since then, however, the Jewish portion (Ma’alot) grew significantly, mostly from new immigrants from the former Soviet Union, following its collapse in the early 1990s.
